There are certain grants that individuals in exile can apply for to reduce their costs when returning to higher education.

Means-tested grants

To be eligible, you must:
- complete the Student Social File from March to May during the year preceding your university enrollment;
- have international protection status (refugee, temporary protection, subsidiary protection, or stateless person);
- be enrolled either in a national degree program (DUT, BTS, Bachelor's, Master's, Doctorate, etc.) or in the University Diploma (DU) "Passerelle-Etudiants en exil".

Depending on the situation, a scholarship holder may receive a predefined monthly allowance. The CROUS Grenoble Alpes evaluates the Student Social File (Dossier Social Étudiant) and decides whether or not to grant a scholarship to students.

One-off financial assistance from the CROUS social service

If you are a student and have not obtained housing or a grant through the standard procedure, you can ask the CROUS social service to review your file for apply for one-off financial assistance.
This assistance may be provided as cash or credit on an IZLY card (to buy meals in CROUS restaurants and cafeterias).

To put together an application, you need to provide proof that you are facing difficulties with housing, food, or having the right equipment to study, or that you need help with your health...
An appointment is mandatory.

The social worker reviews the file, and an evaluation committee then decides whether or not to grant one-time financial assistance.
Applications can be submitted throughout the year, multiple times a year. Each time, you must demonstrate a genuine need.

Financial assistance for resuming studies

Université Grenoble Alpes is committed to exempting asylum seekers and beneficiaries of international protection from registration fees.
If this does not apply to you, but you are experiencing difficulties paying your registration fees, please contact the Espace Colibri, which can look into potential funding options, possibly in conjunction with other organizations.

Financial assistance can be requested to cover costs related to language tests, obtaining a diploma equivalency, or the translation of official documents in order to resume studies.
