Université Grenoble Alpes UGA) is joining forces with France Universités and other French and European universities to express its support for the academic, scientific, and student communities, as well as the entire Ukrainian people, during this dramatic period their country is going through. More than ever, UGA stands up for the values of peace and democracy around the world.

Specific provisions to support affected students and staff

To support its students and staff affected by the war in Ukraine, UGA is putting specific measures in place.

  • Psychological and social support, as well as assistance with administrative procedures (visas, housing, etc.), is being offered to Ukrainian students currently studying at UGA.
UGA has also taken steps to ensure that all students from countries affected by the crisis in Europe have the necessary resources to extend their stay if necessary. In this regard, UGA condemns the false information reported by certain media outlets concerning the reception of Russian students in French universities. UGA will not take any discriminatory or exclusionary measures against students on the basis of their nationality or country of origin. The UGA categorically refuses to subject students to reprisals in response to the policies of their home country's government, of which they themselves may be victims. The UGA must remain true to the French university tradition of welcoming students by offering everyone the same conditions of study.

  • Personalized support is being provided for the repatriation of UGA students currently on exchange programs at Russian universities. No UGA students are being hosted in Ukraine for this academic year.

  • As part of the PAUSE Program, offered by the Collège de France to welcome scientists in exile, a special call for emergency aid for Ukrainian researchers has been set up thanks to an emergency fund granted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation.
This emergency financial aid will enable UGA laboratories to welcome Ukrainian researchers and their families for a period of three months, giving them the opportunity to prepare, in conjunction with UGA, an application to the PAUSE program in accordance with the program's standard procedures and criteria, on a co-financing basis.

In addition, all missions or business trips by UGA staff to Belarus, Ukraine, and Russia are suspended (in accordance with the recommendations of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs). Finally, all new bilateral collaboration projects with Russia and all upcoming scientific events involving Russia are suspended.

Presidents of U7+ Alliance member universities show solidarity with Ukraine

Twenty-one universities from eight countries, including UGA, issued a statement on Friday, March 18, 2022, condemning Russia's invasion of Ukraine and calling on higher education institutions to mobilize in support of victims and others in need.

"The presidents of the member universities of the U7+ Alliance stand in solidarity with Ukraine, the Ukrainian people, Ukrainian universities, and all those affected by the heinous violence currently being perpetrated by the Russian government. We are distressed and outraged by the war in Ukraine and its catastrophic ramifications for so many lives.
As an international alliance of 50 universities in 20 countries and on every continent, so many of our students, faculty, staff, and alumni, as well as our colleagues and other universities and institutions around the world, are directly and indirectly affected by the war. We watch the situation with sadness, anger, and shock. We salute the bravery and sacrifice of those in Russia who are currently speaking out against the war and reaffirm our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of Russian students, faculty, and staff on our campuses.
In response, our universities are mobilizing to support victims and those in need, both within and outside our communities. We are providing student aid, assistance with legal obligations, and material and psychological support wherever possible. Our colleagues are offering unfailing commentary, helping the world understand what is happening.
The U7+ Alliance will continue to uphold the fundamental values of peace, truth, democracy, academic freedom, and international cooperation that are the foundation of this Alliance.
