Université Grenoble Alpes, Crous Grenoble Alpes, and their partners confirm their strong commitment to students and are strengthening the measures in place to combat student poverty and support them during this unprecedented period.

Social assistance to combat precariousness

Enhanced social assistance services

The social services agents at Crous Grenoble Alpes are available to listen to students and provide support to those experiencing personal and financial difficulties. They promote access to rights for students in precarious situations who are eligible for food and/or financial assistance, and provide follow-up and social support, for example in cases of family difficulties, in order to ensure their success in their university studies.

For the start of the academic year, an additional social worker has been assigned byUniversité Grenoble Alpes UGA) to the Crous Grenoble Alpes service in order to support students during this particular period, which is exacerbating the difficulties faced by those in the most precarious situations. In addition, in order to identify problematic situations as early as possible, answer students' questions, and inform them about the assistance available, group meetings are being organized every Tuesday starting in the first week of September. Finally, an additional €259,000 from the Student and Campus Life Contribution (CVEC) has been allocated by UGA to Crous Grenoble Alpes for social assistance for students in precarious situations.

"A computer for me": success and renewal of the program to provide computers to students affected by the digital divide

The health crisis in the spring highlighted an important issue: a number of students face digital insecurity and do not have the necessary means to connect and pursue their studies remotely under good conditions.

Launched by the UGA Foundation last April, the "Un ordi pour Bibi" (A Computer for Bibi) initiative collected 200 computers, refurbished them, and delivered them to around 100 UGA students to ensure that those in financial difficulty could continue their studies remotely. This equipment was given to students on social grounds in conjunction with the Crous Grenoble Alpes social services department.

With hybrid teaching methods continuing into the new academic year, the difficulties faced by many students without computers are more than ever a concern for UGA, which wants to enable everyone to succeed. Phase 2 of the operation is therefore currently being developed to provide 200 new computers to UGA students, in order to continue supporting education even in these uncertain times.

Grenoble INP Foundation: additional support for students in need

The Grenoble INP Foundation has set up an emergency aid program to complement its other scholarship programs in order to help students in difficulty due to the impact of Covid-19. To date, nine students have already received assistance. Other applications are currently being reviewed.

L’Agoraé: a community grocery store run by students

Already present on several campuses in France (Lyon, Caen, Paris, etc.), Agoraé is a social and solidarity grocery store. In Grenoble, Interasso Grenoble Alpes, in partnership with Crous Grenoble Alpes and with the support of UGA, opened the doors of the new Agoraé in January 2020.

Agoraé offers students a social grocery store, accessible based on the student's resources, but it is above all a place for all students to live and interact. Eligible students, whose applications have been reviewed by the Agoraé team and a Crous social worker, can find food, cleaning products, and school supplies at greatly reduced prices (between 10 and 20% off regular retail prices). With the additional aim of creating social ties, the center also organizes prevention initiatives, food awareness and responsible consumption campaigns, as well as cultural activities.
