Unregistered student status is an enrolment status at the university that can provide many advantages.
University library (BU)
University libraries are open to the public. Students and staff can borrow books, CDs, DVDs, magazines, etc. from their collection.
University credit
Successfully passing exams results in the acquisition of university credits. Within the European Union, institutions generally use the "European Credit Transfer System" (ECTS). 1 ECTS credit has the same value within all institutions that use this system. The credit value of a course corresponds to the quantity of work deemed necessary to pass the exam and acquire all necessary knowledge and skills. One full semester corresponds to 30 ECTS credits.
Doctoral school
The ensemble of Doctoral Schools makes up the Doctoral College. Each PhD student belongs to a doctoral school (ED) which focuses on studies about a particular disciplinary field. Once every year, each ED selects several candidates to receive doctoral grants (“departmental allocations”), and welcomes PhD students who have obtained a different source of funding or, for some, who have not obtained any funding.
Displaced persons
The term “displaced persons” is preferred over others. “Displaced persons” is inclusive of and not limited to individuals considered refugees, asylum-seekers, stateless persons, persons granted subsidiary protection or persons with a visa from a country in crisis.
Initial education
This includes courses and programs that are taken immediately after completing high school. They teach occupational basics.
Continuing education (FC)
This applies to persons who have suspended their studies for over 2 years, who work or have worked for several years, and who wish to (re)take a program.
CERF levels of language proficiency
The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) has determined a system of progression for language learning. The proficiency levels go from A1 (novice) to C2 (expert): A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2.
In order to pursue a degree program in France, a minimum B2 level of French language proficiency is required.
The RU and university cafeterias are run by CROUS. Students have access to a variety of meals at a very reasonable cost. The most popular option is the full meal for 3,15€ at RU.
Tutorials (travaux dirigé or TD)
Tutorials are courses made up of small groups of students (thirty at maximum). It is necessary to take these courses in order to validate university credits.
Course Unit
These are courses focused on a specific topic. In general, one UE includes 20 to 30 hours of instruction (remotely or in-person) and an equivalent amount of personal work hours. ECTS credits are obtained upon successful completion of a UE.
