Since 2011, Europe has seen an increasing number of people forced to leave their countries. By helping displaced persons*, we hope to contribute as much as we can to alleviate the effects of human catastrophes on a global scale.
Establishments Involved
The Grenoble campus community has aspired to adapt in order to fulfil its mission of public service for those with various specific needs and restrictions. Measures established to facilitate access to higher education have been supported by executives of other schools and establishments within the Université Grenoble Alpes EPE (établissement public expérimental).
Our initiatives particularly aim to simplify access to information and to the proper procedures for people who wish to enrol into a higher education program in Grenoble. We also coordinate an ensemble of support facilities for specific needs.
Registration Cost Exemptions
Starting in 2015, institutions in Grenoble have voted for exemptions from registration fees for students, both registered and unregistered, considered to be:
refugees
beneficiaries of subsidiary protection
stateless persons
asylum-seekers
Upon proof of status, these students will be exempt from registration costs.
Espace Colibri
Espace Colibri welcomes individuals that meet any of the statuses listed above, whether it be in-person, by telephone, or by mail. It provides support in a wide range of areas, both to ease the difficulties of daily life tied to instability and to address any questions regarding academic programs, educational level or integration into the job market.
It also coordinates a series of activities and services within and between establishments by:
organizing workshops for professional development (resume workshops, cover letters, interview preparation…) via the Career Center at the UGA’s Orientation and Professional Integration Department;
acting as a gateway to educational initiatives based on the Co-Former project (RUSF and UGA) and by shifting towards the use of French foreign language resources in the agglomeration;
providing management and monitoring data (number of registrations, courses taken, level, discipline, rate of success) to enable us to develop our support with more and more appropriate responses.

Doing Our Part
As told by the Indigenous legend, “The Flight of the Hummingbird”, there was once an immense forest fire. All the animals, terrified and dismayed, helplessly looked on. It was only the little hummingbird that sprung to action and hurried, searching for droplets of water with its beak to put out the fire. After some time, the armadillo, agitated, said: “Hummingbird! Are you mad? You can’t put out that fire!” And the hummingbird responded: “I know, but at least I am doing my part.” We hope to follow in the hummingbird’s footsteps through our work with displaced persons.
